I recently posted a review on a small local business, Leesa Barr makeup (I will link my review below). Not only were her products great, but she is in my back yard! This got me excited about the prospect of other small beauty businesses in Australia. So hopefully this post will be the second in a new series on my blog.
Around Easter time I was introduced to the lovely Emily Wilson. Emily is a Makeup Artist in Hervey Bay, Queensland that also has her own makeup range. We were introduced by a mutual friend and we had fun chatting about makeup while Emily gave me a mini makeover (my makeover picture is on my instagram page).
Emily has a HUGE range of products, including mineral makeup. I could have spent hours in there playing with everything! Emily started her own range when she couldn’t find products that she was happy using on her clients and wanted to be able to on sell the products she used. Emily also ensured that her products would stay in the affordable price range so everyone could access her makeup.
Emily’s products are available from her website, or if you are lucky to live in Hervey Bay you can go and check out her full range at her gorgeous home studio. There are also a few stockists, Serenity Skin Spa in Hervey Bay, Kashmiha in Maleny and Hope Island Beauty and Medispa – Hope Island.
I bought a few products to play with. The lip and cheek Double Duty Lip and Cheek cream in Palm Beach, Brow Art liner in Medium Brown and Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick in Boudoir. Emily also gave me a small tester of her BB Cream as I am always looking for that perfect product to create my no makeup makeup look.
I will start with the Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick. I love a good liquid lipstick and this one is awesome! The pigmented is great, not patchy at all and not drying on the lips. I had this on all day and never once needed to touch it up. I am seriously going to need to get some more of these in a few more colours! It is better than some of the high end ones I have tried.
The Brow Art Liner is an awesome cream brow product. I have bought a lot of brow products and none have ever really made me as happy as my Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil. But I feel like this is a new game changer for me. I applied this with my Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Brush and it was easy to get nice fine lines, similar to my brow wiz, but with the amount of product in there I am sure this will last me for a very long time. Unlike my brow wiz pencil that disappears in the blink of an eye. At $22 I think this is a bargain!
Finally the Double Duty Lip and Cheek Cream. I have always wanted to try a cream blush and when I saw the colour of this one (peach of course) I had to buy it! Being oily skinned I wasn’t sure how it would last on me but was keen to give it a try. It blends beautifully and the colour is very flattering. I am wearing this one today so will update you on the longevity of it on Instagram tomorrow. But first impressions – I am in love!
Finally is the tester of the BB Cream. I am not a huge fan of BB Cream’s as they either look like a moisturiser with absolutely no hint of coverage or blurring (my skin needs a lot of help) or I look like I fell into an oil slick face first. Emily assured me this was a matte version and oh how correct she was. This is awesome. I still set it with a dusting of powder (habit of an oily skin girl) but it was a matte formula and looked lovely and light on the skin with the right amount of coverage to help even out my skin tone. Well enough for me to go natural (my version of natural anyway lol) anyway.
All of Emily’s products have sturdy packaging and her logo placed perfectly. Her price point is great and comparable to prices you would find in a chemist. Emily also offers makeup lessons for those that need a nudge to try something different or just don’t know where to start. Will I purchase more from Emily’s range again? YES!!! and will be heading back to her studio to try out some other products next time I am in Hervey Bay.
I am keen to discover more small business so let me know if there are any in your neck of the woods that I should take a closer look at. Have a fabulous day xx.
