Maybelline Fit Me Foundation – Hit or Miss

Foundation can be a very personal thing. Everyone has different skin types and needs. So what works for one may not for someone else. Then there are different occasions and seasons that have different requirements. Maybe its work or the weekend on a day time outing, date night or full on glam for a special occasion. Foundation can be like a well planned wardrobe, it can make or break the whole look.

Me? I am an oily skinned queen with big pores, uneven skin tone, pigmentation and scaring. Yes I have it all! So for me my foundation needs to hide all my sins AND last through blood sweat and tears! I am a hard girl to please when it comes to foundation!

I have tried quite a few different brands but my current favourite drugstore foundation would have to be the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless.

The Claims: ‘Fit Me® Matte + Poreless Foundation face makeup. Mattifies and refines pores and leaves a natural, seamless finish. Ideal for normal to oily skin, our exclusive formula with micro-powders controls shine and blurs pores. Leaves a natural, seamless finish.  Dermatologist tested.  Allergy tested.  Non-comedogenic.’

The foundation comes in a square glass bottle but there is no pump. I find this can be a little messy and do prefer a pump, but the product performs well so I can live without it. To me this foundation is a light coverage but builds up nicely to give you more of a medium coverage.

I find applying the first layer with my Nude by Nature Buffing brush in a stippling motion works best. This always gives me a flawless finish and helps fill in any pores that need extra disguise. The foundation itself gives a lovely natural finish with one layer, but I prefer a more medium coverage so always apply a second layer with a damp beauty blender. This blends beautifully and leaves me with the coverage I like and a matte look with my pores visibly reduced. I will say though wait for the first layer to set a little before going in to apply the second layer. This helps with building up the coverage.

I always set with a powder to finish the look. This also helps to keep oil and shine at bay for as long as possible. When I use this for work, I apply my makeup at 5.30am and it is still there at 3.30pm when I get home! I am not a fan of the Fit Me powders though as sadly they are too pink for me.

My only problem with this foundation would be the colour range. There are not many  colours suitable for us medium, yellow toned girls. Quite frankly, they really lack in the darker shades all together. Lighter skinned girls can rejoice though as they do go quite light in colour range. I tend to sway between 220 and 310 (which is the two darkest colours in the range) depending on the season and I will often mix them as well.

The price? A complete bargain as the bottle is 30ml for $19.95. Then being drugstore I always wait for the sales before buying as there is always a sale somewhere for Maybelline products! When you find them at 40% it is time to buy up!

I tend to use this foundation more on a day to day basis, usually for work. It does come up beautifully in photos without any flashback but for special events or night time I like a more medium to full coverage. But that is just me.

What is your favourite affordable foundation? I would love to hear in the comments below.  I am always keen to try something new. xx

  1. We must have similar skin tone as I’m 310 in maybelline fit me only im dry skin and use the dewy formula. I have used matte and poreless and it wasn’t drying at all. I love applying with my beauty blender, I think this is a great foundation and have used for a while., I love their mousse foundation which is also in a bottle but has a pump., it’s thick but it blends beautifully

      2. I will absolutely let you know., I’m so curious to try it now.
I brought the match perfection in 400 natural briefs, medium coverage and lasting finish in 400 natural beige also.. 25spf pretty good, lasts a good 6 hours with setting spray, and for the price, really good for everyday. The lasting finish is full coverage, I’m not a fan of full on me, but it does cover everything on my face freckles and pigmentation

  3. I love this foundation! I just did a review on it but I find that the shade range is pretty good in the UK in comparison to a lot of other drugstore brands we have. It’s annoying when brands limit shades to certain countries though! Lovely post xx

    1. Thanks glad you enjoyed it. I have noticed other bloggers have mentioned colours we don’t seem to have. I think it’s pretty stupid not release all colours in all countries. Maybe I need to look at getting some online from overseas xx
