For the first time in a very long time, I am feeling like my skin is in a good place. I am feeling like my current routines are working so I thought it was time to share my morning skin care of the moment. I will also write a second post with my night time routine soon.
I had been having heaps of trouble with my skin breaking out over the last 8 months. I am not sure why, and I am way too old for it, and it was driving me crazy. When I break out I often get cystic acne that just doesn’t go way. It sits under the skin for months on end and I cannot seem to make it budge. After doing some research on natural remedies, I found a girl on Youtube talking about how she used zinc tablets to clear her skin. So I didn’t just buy the general run of the mill zinc tablets, I went the whole hog and bought the strongest I could find – Ethical Nutrients Zinc Fix Powder in Rasberry flavour.
It worked! My breakouts slowed down only happening when I stopped taking the zinc. I went through a few bottles before changing to tablets as I started to get sick of the flavour and my skin hadn’t broken out in quite awhile. Now I just take them when I think of it. Problem was, even though I had no new breakouts, I still had some lumps sitting under my skin. So the next challenge was to get rid of them. With them nearly gone I thought it was perfect time to share what I have been using currently. I will also add that I am usually oily skinned, but I have been feeling like I am swaying more towards normal/combo in the last month as I feel like my skin is happy and functioning better.
Cleanser – Phisohex Antibacterial Wash
Doesn’t sound very fancy but it helped. It ‘assists in the removal of bacteria which can cause skin problems, while maintianing your skin’s normal pH balance. Aids in the treatment of acne & pimples without drying the skin. Helps remove dirt and oil from blocked pores’
I liked how creamy it was without being oily or drying. Plus it was cheap. A 200ml bottle is only $10 and lasts for ages. My boys are both starting to get a few pimples as well so this has been good for them too.
I am currently looking for a cleanser to switch with this when my skin is good. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Scrub – ASAP Daily Exfoliating Facial Scrub
I have been using this for a very long time. It isn’t not harsh as it is designed for every day. It contains gylcolic acid as well as smooth round beads and AHA’s to remove dead skin cells. I have come to the conclusion of late that my cystic acne stays under the skin as I don’t think my skin naturally sheds or turns over the skin cell as efficiently as it should. So I am all for anything exfoliating. I can hear beauty therapists from around the world screaming – NO! but I remember my dermatologist basically telling me this when I was younger and that exfoliating daily was a must. But the reality of it is really only sinking in now.
Serum – The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
I love this one. I have written a review previously on this baby and I am just starting my 3rd bottle. I cannot live without it. It has helped with my anti-aging and dehydrated under eye area a lot. I put this all over my face including under my eyes before I use anything else. If you would like to read the review you will find it here.
Serum – The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
I have also reviewed this one. I was a little on the fence with it even after a month of use but I have decided to continue using it up. When I was reviewing it I was looking more at the pimple treatment side of it but not really the other benefits of Niacinamide. So I have started using it twice a day to see if it makes any difference in my fine lines, pigmentation or sebum production. I am feeling like my oil has slowed since using this twice a day and my pigmentation is definitely less. I am not sure if it is this or a combination of all products. I guess we will see when I eventually run out of it and see what changes happen in the appearance of my skin. My original review is can be found here.
Under Eyes – Hylamide SubQ Eyes
This was one of the products I purchased when Priceline had their 40% off skincare recently. I have been using it for a few weeks now and once it has been a month I will write a full review. So keep an eye out for that. But initially it feels nice and I feel like it is improving my under eye area.
Under Eyes – Essano Certified Organic Rosehip Oil
I have the most dehydrated under eyes on the face of the planet. If I don’t use enough moisture before applying my makeup I get that crepey look and it isn’t pretty. I find adding this into my routine has helped a lot. I make sure that I put it on and give it time to soak in before applying my makeup. I also use it on my lips to try and remove the dry cracked looked.
Under Eyes – Mary Kay Time Wise Regena Firm Correcting Eye Cream
This is the most expensive product in my routine. But no where near as expensive as the Estee Lauder one I loved and in my opinion it is better. It also lasts for ages. I reackon I have had it for at least 3 months and not even close to running out. So for me I think it is pretty good value for money. I also haven’t found any eye creams that really work for anti ageing in the drug store line – especially for the over 35 bracket. So if you have any suggestions please let me know.
That is it. When I am wearing makeup I don’t tend to use a moisturiser for day time unless I feel like my skin really needs it. I feel a primer is sufficient and works well for me.
It probably looks like a lot of products but most of them are very affordable. Especially The Ordinary range. They also have a rosehip oil that is cheaper than the Essano one so I will give it a go when I eventually run out. But it is lasting me forever using only a drop for my under eyes.
