I love a good mask. Nothing beats a relaxing Sunday with some self pampering time. A candle burning, a good mask applied and my favourite You-tubers playing. Especially when life gets crazy and hectic, taking time out is a necessity as it helps re-energise and keep going. My favourite mask is a clay mask as I really enjoy them and feel like they do a great job of calming my skin and absorbing oil and dirt. So the Nip + Fab Glycolic Instant Fix Mask was a completely different experience.
This mask intrigued me when I saw it in Priceline. I have heard good things from this brand and I love using products with Glycolic as an ingredient. If you have never used anything containing glycolic acid then you really should be. Glycolic comes from cane sugar so is a natural skin care product. With small molecules it can penetrate deeply into the skin with ease. This creates a great addition to your skin care routine for concerns such as fine lines, acne/blackheads dullness and even oiliness. Woohoo! I mean who doesn’t have at least one of these concerns. If you are oily, like me, you are probably fighting all of the above.
‘An extension to our bestselling Glycolic Fix range, the Glycolic Instant Fix Mask is a high potency, pore-tightening gel mask to perfect and exfoliate the complexion. Our highest level of glycolic acid (5%) combines with Evermat™ technology to gently smooth away the appearance of lines and wrinkles whilst reducing the look of enlarged pores. Skin is more even-toned and visually smoother.’
Packaging and Product:
The mask comes in a tube which makes it easy to use, and mess free. A tube also means no bacteria can get into the remaining product. It contains 50ml which is great. The mask itself is completely clear and a gel like consistency. I just squeeze some onto the back of my hand and apply with a flat foundation brush. There is a slight smell, which is a little weird. But I didn’t find it too over powering. Once it was on I could no longer smell it. But if you are sensitive to smell you may not like it.
The instructions do suggest only leaving this on for a period of 10 minutes before washing off. The website also states: ‘Please note due to the high % of Glycolic Acid present in this product we recommend that you carry out a patch test before first application.’ I have also read that people found that it made their skin very red once removed, so if you are a sensitive skin type I would be adhering to this recommendation and maybe reducing the amount of time it is applied the first few times. Just to help your skin get accustomed to it. I have not had any reaction to it myself, but I always stick to the 10 minute time frame when applied.
Being a clear gel is a little strange. Not what I am used to for a mask. But on the plus side, you can have it on and no-one even knows. So my boys are not going to look at me like I am strange in any way…LOL. It didn’t set or go hard and was easy to wash off with water and a washer.
My skin looked like I had just been for a facial! It looks clear, clean and fresh with a beautiful dewy finish. It wasn’t oily at all, just dewy and healthy looking. I am not sure it particularly made my pores any smaller but I kind of feel like that is a myth anyway. Sadly I don’t think they are going to shrink any time soon. I have used this mask quite a few times now and every time my skin looks amazing afterwards and I wonder why I use it more often. I will be repurchasing this when it runs out. Thats for sure.
What is your favourite self pamper routine? Or is there a mask you love and thing I should try? I would love to know. xx
