If you have dark circles then you might already know the battle. They drive me insane and take a lot of effort to cover them without looking like a 70 year old with dry shriveled up under eyes! Then there are other issues like, if the concealer is too lite – they look even worse, too dark – hideous, not enough coverage – still see them, too much coverage – wrinkles look crazy emphasised, too much colour correcting – the red shines through. Yes I have tried it all!
Heaps of people rave about the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Concealer but I had never actually tried it. Rarely do I find a drug store concealer I like. So I just never gave it a second thought. But I was on you-tube recently and a recommended video popped up that grabbed my attention – Testing Under eye Concealers for Mature Skin! (link is here). Not that I have mature skin, but I have dry under eyes with fine lines so thought this might also work on me. In this video Angie put 9 under eye concealers to the test with photos of each one before and after wear and rated them worst to best. Guess what came in second? Yep you guessed it, the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer! Only second to the Lancome Effacernes Concealer which of course was a lot more expensive than this. So I grabbed the Maybelline one in medium to try.
At full price it is $18.95 for 5.9 ml. Which isn’t really that much product. In comparison, the Mac Prolong Wear Concealer is $38 for 9 ml. So the Maybelline one is only slightly more affordable. But I picked mine up at 50% off from Coles. So on sale I think it is a great price!
The product itself is in a hard plastic bottle with a twist top. As you can see in the photo I have removed the little sponge applicator as I didn’t like the idea of this. Grossed me out to be honest. But I will give it a try next time as it is supposed to help create that flawless finish.
To dispense the concealer you twist the top. I find two or three twists is enough for one side. I apply with it a flat concealer brush then finish off with a damp sponge before applying my setting powder.
The colour range is a little limited as there are only three colour choices, light, medium and dark. So this may not suit everyone. The medium is the perfect tone with a slight pink tone which is perfect for concealing those dark circles.
I love it! I haven’t had to use the colour correcting orange concealer underneath since I started using this! This concealer not only covers the darkness but it does not settle into my fine lines. I do set it with a translucent powder as I normally would as I feel that it still needs to be set for best results. But it is working really well and I am super impressed!
Would I buy this again? I Sure would!
The other top two where the Lancome Effacernes Concealer in first place and Tarte Shape Tape Concealer was third. I will be testing these both out in the near future as well. So keep you eye out for that. But for an affordable concealer that does a great job, this one is a definite thumbs up from me.
What is your favourite concealer for the under eyes? I would love to know. xx
